First Aid Kit

•Durable Waterproof Container
•Rectal thermometer
•Bandage material:
— non-adhesive bandage (maxi-pads will work, too)
— rolls of gauze (cling)
— VetWrap (or another brand of bandaging tape/conforming bandage)
— 1inch adhesive
•Blunt-tip scissors or disposable razor for clipping hair from wounds
•Antibacterial soap
•Antibacterial ointment
•Contact lens solution for flushing eyes and wounds
•Cotton swabs (Qtips)
•Rubber bulb ear syringe for flushing wounds
•Tweezers or forceps
•Disposable gloves
•E-collar (cone)

If you have room…

•Bandage scissors
•Splints
•Instant hot & cold compresses
•Alcohol swabs to sterilize instruments and skin
•Stocking or Stockingette to protect a bandaged paw
•Large blanket for warmth or to use as a stretcher

***ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT EVEN THE NICEST DOGS MAY BITE WHEN IN SHOCK OR IN PAIN***

Use a shoelace (or equivalent) as a muzzle before working with injured animals.

If you have a dog that is prone to ear infections, diarrhea or allergies, speak with your veterinarian before you go on vacation. S/He can be a great resource on prevention and/or treatment.
